What A Nice Brunch!
A wonderful Sunday brunch! Suzie's Farm Radicchio Torta with goat cheese and a glass of champagne. Here is the recipe. It serves four. Recipe can easily be doubled.
Radicchio Torta
1 medium radicchio
5 eggs
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 Tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
3 Tablspoons flour
1/4 cup of goat cheese or Greek style yogurt
3 Tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Core radicchio and slice or coarsely chop, place it in a medium mixing bowl. Add eggs, bread crumbs, flour, Parmesan cheese to the radicchio and mix well. Heat oil in a 10 inch frying pan. Cook mixture until brown on both sides. Serve warm, topped with goat cheese or Greek style yogurt.
For those of you who shy away from radicchio because you find it somewhat bitter, you will see that the acidity in the goat cheese or yogurt really makes a difference, and reduces the bitterness quite a bit.
This recipe is also perfect for a quick supper. Pair it with a nice Riesling or Pinot Grigio. The acidity in the wine is a wonderful compliment to the radicchio.
This recipe is a keeper, delicious, elegant, and easy to prepare!Cheers!

Wine Tasting; You Do It Your Way!
Last Saturday we went to dinner at my daughter and son-in-law's home. I brought several bottles of wine. Same variety, different wineries.
While my daughter finished the last minute meal preparations, I took out glasses and proceeded to pour so that I could do a side-by-side comparison tasting. She commented that she never does that. She usually drinks a glass at a time, and then decided which wine she preferred.
I must admit that I don't often do side-by-side comparisons, mostly for practical reasons. If my husband is not home, and he travels a lot on business, opening two or three bottles of wine is not practical. There is no way that I can finish three bottles of wine before the recommended kitchen counter storage method times out. That is why I was eager to do a comparison wine tasting when I knew that all the wine would be consumed in short order.
But that conversation started me thinking. I am curious; how do you taste wine? And how do you feel about wine tasting? Do you do side-by-side comparisons? Do you feel silly, pretentious, or self-conscious? Do you congratulate yourself when you spot the differences? do you really enjoy discovering the personalities of each wine? Food for thought, and drink!

Champaigne for No-Holiday?
How do you perceive Champagne? Do you see it as a celebration, or as a wine? Do you drink sparkling wine only on special occasions, or do you have it just for the heck of it?
My take on this is that sparkling wine should have the accent on the "wine", rather than the "sparkling". It is a wonderful wine, it doesn't have to cost a fortune, and it pairs well with anything. I have even had it with Mole!!!??? (and it was delicious).
Life is too short. You can have sparkling wine in the middle of January, not just January 1. It is particularly good in the Dog Days of Summer! You can have it for any reason and any meal. Don't wait for special occasions, you are missing out if you do!

Pinot Noir, So Mysterious!
Pinot Noir, I love Pinot Noir. I love the taste, but I also love the name. I find it intriguing and mysterious. When I hear the words I immediately think of Film Noir, of Humphrey Bogart!
Next time Turner Classing Movies has a Bogie marathon, I'll be there with my glass of Pinot Noir.

Curious About Amarone?
Amarone is an interesting wine made from partially dried grapes, primarily in the Veneto.
Because of the way it is produced, using grapes that are well on their way to becoming raisins, the flavors are very complex. It is fruity and high in alcohol.
You would think that using partially dried grapes would make the wine very sweet, but that is not the case. It is a dry wine that can be consumed on its own, and is also excellent with food. It pairs successfully with lamb, game, beef, and aged cheeses.

If you are planning a romantic dinner, festive but not too expensive; don't shy away from sparkling wine.
Domain Chandon Blanc de Noir NV is a great choice. Crisp and fresh, it goes great with any meal, and it will not break your budget. In the $20-$25 range, you can usually find it for much less.
