Wine recommendations for January 2011 are in. Perhaps you are partied out, and it is time for New Year's resolutions and new beginnings. Well, a good resolution is to drink better wine. Right now there are so many great wines that are reasonably price; it is hard to pass them up. This is the moment to enjoy the excellent values that are being offered in the marketplace. As the saying goes, life is too short to drink bad wine, especially when good wine can be had at such prices!

The Whites

Domaine de Reuilly Reuilly Les Pierres Plates 2009. Bright and yummy! Notes of herbs and lemon. Score of 89, $18.00 USD. France.

Uvas del Valle Torrentés Cafayate Camino del Inca 2010. Peaches and cream, that is what this wine reminds me of; throw in a bit of tangerine and you have a lovely wine. Score of 87, $15.00 USD. Argentina.

Charles Smith Riesling Columbia Valley Kung Fu Girl Evergreen Vineyards 2009. A versatile wine with notes of apple and citrus. Score of 89, $12.00. Washington State.

De Morgenzon Chardonnay Western Cape 2009. Elegant notes of fig, pear, apple, and honeysuckle. A great value. Score of 89, $14.00 USD. South Africa.

Hogue Pinot Grigio Columbia Valley 2009. Citrus and pear are the high notes, but this wine is also a little nutty (in a great way!). Score of 88, $11.00 USD. Washington State.

The Reds

Chateau Ste. Michelle Merlot Columbia Valley Indian Wells 2008. A great balance of fruits and spices. Notes of plum, berries, and currant; sprinkle a bit pepper, and you have a great wine. Score of 90, $18.00. Washington State.

Michele Chiario Barbera d'Asti Superiore Le Orme 2008. Another special wine, this one has notes of blackberry, currant,and spices. Score of 90, $15.00 USD. Italy

Georges Duboeuf Morgon Flower Label 2009. The classic combination of cherries and chocolate come together beautifully; that's what you'll think of when you try this wine. Score of 90, $13.00 USD. France.

Bantista Simona Malbec Mendoza Reserva 2007. I love malbec, and this one is a beaut! Berries, cherries, and a bit of licorice. Very nice. Score of 87, $15.00 USD. Argentina.

Louis Jadot Moulin-a-Vent Chateau des Jacques 2009. A very nice balance of vanilla, cherry, minerals, and fig. Intricate and elegant. Score of 90, $18.00 USD. France.
