Oregon Wine Country. Friendly. Relaxed. Great Wine!

The Oregon Wine Country is a friendly and relaxed area. A perfect place for a wine vacation. Oregon is a relative newcomer when it comes to wine.

In the 1970s, while places like California were going full steam ahead with wine production, Oregon's wine industry was just a few wineries here and there.

It wasn't until the 1990s that wine really began to seep into the State's collective consciousness, when several wineries attracting attention for their top-notch products.

Oregon Wine Country is nestled between two mountain ranges; the Coast Range and the Cascade Mountains. The main wine producing areas run from north to south.

To the northeast you find

the Columbia River Gorge This wine region is shared by both Oregon and Washington's own wine country. With its wild and fantastic scenery; it produces pinot noir, riesling, chardonnay, and gewurztraminer among others.

To the northwest, and running south, is the beautiful Willamette River Valley. Within the Valley there are several growing areas that are distinct from one another; including Washington County, the well know Yamhill County area, and the East of Salem and Salem areas.

Further south there is the Umpqua Valley, less well know than the Willamette Valley, but gaining in excellent wine production.

Because it is a bit far from large cities, and it is more difficult to get to, there are fewer number of visitors; but it is certainly worth your while. Locals are friendly and wine is great, what more can you ask for!

Though Oregon is also known for its fruit wines, it is the vines that interest us. It produces many varieties of wines, but pinot noir has been very prominent, and extremely well executed by many of the areas wineries.

If you have the opportunity to visit Oregon and its Wine Country, grab it with both hands.
