Wine recommendations for December 2011! Just in time to celebrate the Holidays and welcome the New Year. This month brings the usual offerings of white and red wines, plus some sparkling wines to cheer the coming year.

Lets celebrate with wonderful wines of France; Specifically the Loire Valley. Such a beautiful place; such delightful wines. I say if it was good enough for Leonardo Da Vinci, it is good enough for me!

When we think of the Loire, we think white wine. But here I include samples of yummy reds and festive sparkling wines. The wine recommendations for December 2011 may bring a surprise or two, but this is a wonderful way to explore unexpected offerings from a well know region.

The Whites

Auguste Bonhomme Vouvray Demi-Sec La Forcine 2010. Notes of quince, pear and fig. This is an off-dry wine, but with plenty of tang. Score of 89, $12.00 USD. France

Patient Cottat Sauvignon Blanc Vin de Pays du Val de Loire Le Grand Caillou 2009. This wonderful wine will make you think of citrus and green apple. Pretty lively and plain delicious. Score if 88, 12.00 USD. France.

Saget Pére & Fils Vouvray 2010. Chamomile and pear; plus a little bit of spice for good measure. Beautiful! Score of 90, $11.00 USD. France.

Cave du Haut Poitou Savignon Haut Poitou Le Bois de la Tour 2010. Citrus and herbs, what I like to think of as the typical sauvignon notes; Love it. Score of 87, $12.00 USD. France.

Guy Saget Vouvray Marie de Beauregard 2009. This is a beautifully complex wine. Notes of minerals, pear, quince, and spice. Score of 91, $18.00 USD. France.

The Reds

Vignobles du Paradis Chinon Clos de la Lysardiere 2009. Cherry and plum, with some tobacco and chalk. Lovely wine! Score of 90, $16.00 USD. France.

Chateau de la Roulerie Anjou Les Mérances 2010. Layers of blackberry, plum, tobacco, and expresso. Score of 89, $15.00 USD. France.

Levron-Vinvcenot Anjou-Villages Brissac Chateau Princé 2008. Woody notes, with plum, blackberry, and some spice. Score of 89, $16.00 USD. France.

Guy Saget Chinon Marie de Beauregard 2009. Wonderful wine with notes of plum, cocoa, cherry, and minerals. Score of 90, $18.00 USD. France.

Le Paradis Chinon 2010. Black cherry and tobacco are the prominent notes in this lovely wine. Score of 89, $14.00 USD. France.
